Our Most Recent ViewThis is not Real Time or some other high tech feature. It's just a new photo of what we are up to that we post from time to time.
January 3, 2012
The Evolving DawnThey call it daybreak but break is not how I would describe the way the day sneaks up on you this time of the year. A break is a sudden, abrupt event. It makes me think of breaking bones or breaking glass. Nothing could be further from the truth about how our day begins. It happens slowly, gradually like someone easing their body into a cold mountain lake. It starts as the soft glow of false dawn and slowly brightens as if controlled by a slow hand on a dimmer switch. For those who are up early enough to catch the performance on a cold clear January morning, it eases one into the day with a slow and gentle kiss of light.
Ice Conditions: Getting better with the cold snap but still not great. 500 yards (app. 470 meters) off shore in front of the resort it goes from 5 to 6 inches down to 2 to 3. Safe enough for walking out to the 500 yard point but dangerous after that. Definitely not ready for vehicles and definitely something you should check on as you walk. Always be safe, carry a set of ice rescue picks and check the thickness frequently as you walk.
