In 1929 the Foran family built our lodge as a place for travelers and local folks to stop and rest while enjoying Ottawa Valley hospitality. The tradition continues in our newly restored lodge which is now home to the Moose on the Beach Restaurant. Here you will find great food at a reasonable price served in a cozy atmosphere. The Moose is open to our guests and the public every day from late June through August and weekends from mid May to late June and Labour Day through mid October.

The Moose on the Beach is available during the off season to host wedding receptions, parties and other gatherings. We have a great range of flexibility and pride ourselves in working with you to create a menu to suit any taste or budget.

Why the Moose?

Many people wonder about our unusual name. Here is our tale:
The Story of our Moose

It was late March, 1999 and the ice was off Lake Clear early that year. A large moose wandered out of the bush behind our cottages and strolled across the road to the beach. He paused at the water's edge for a bit and admired the sunrise before turning and ambling back the way he came. What was he looking for? Maybe he was looking for a mate, or maybe it was for a bite to eat. It could be that he just wanted to admire the sunrise. We will never know for sure.

Chris felt inspired by this visit to capture the moment in oils. During the following year she sketched out her painting a number of times until she captured what she saw as the mood of that morning. It is that painting which graces the cover of our menu and lends its name to this restaurant. It hangs on one of our walls for your enjoyment.

As you enjoy your meal remember the spirit of that moose. No hurry, no rush, just relax and enjoy whatever life has to offer.
