Hunt With Salmond's Camp

Over Half a Century of Hunting Experience

At Salmond's we have been serving hunters for over 50 years. We offer a unique, Eastern Ontario hunting experience. If you are looking for a place where you are a friend and hunting partner and not just a paying customer, then Salmond's may be your kind of hunt.

We offer guided fall deer and bear hunts on thousands of acres of Crown land. You are taken to you watch by a guide who will return for you at the end of the day's hunt. If you need help tracking a wounded animal we do all we can to help you put it on the pole. Our hunts are not for those who want to be led by the hand and pampered. We offer a True North hunting experience the way we have been for over 50 years. We use dogs to drive the deer and keep them moving and while we do not guarantee every hunter a shot, we do guarantee you a hunt the way hunting was meant to be.

Our typical hunt day starts at 5:00 a.m. with breakfast and time to pack a lunch. Coffee and tea are available to fill your thermos for the day. Your guide will either take you by foot or vehicle to the area you have choosen to hunt. You will be with a group of from 3 to 10 other hunters who will be taken to their watch by the guide. We have watches available to suit nearly any physical ability and on any given day they all have a fairly equal chance of having a deer come by. Each hunter is left at their watch and given information by the guide about what to possibly expect.

Just after sun up our dog setters release the hounds and try to get them started on a successful chase. We try to set our hunters along know runways where the deer are likely to be driven, however, deer are sneaky and you will need a keen eye and ear to make the most of it. You will spend the day alone with nature and in many cases what you see and experience will be determined by your ability to remain quiet and unseen by the game. If you get a shot we hope your aim is sure and your shot accurate. Our goal is for a clean, humane kill. However, if a wounded deer can not be easily found, your guide will return at the end of the hunt and assist in tracking it down.

When a deer is successfully taken we assist you in getting it from the woods to the camp using the most expedient way. ATV's are frequently used for this purpose but sometimes we need to use human power to cover part of the distance. In no case will you be left on your own. Help will always be provided and even if you are not physically able to assist, we will see that your deer gets back to camp.

After the hunt you can kick back and relax while waiting for dinner. Some hunters like to purchase a small game license and do a bit of grouse or snowshoe hunting before dinner while others sometimes like to do a bit of private deer hunting just up to dark. It's your choice. If you are a bit late for supper, we will always hold a plate for you but we might make you help with the dishes.

After dinner we make plans for the next day's hunt before the guys head off for the after dinner card games and bull sessions. We try to keep evenings friendly and informal.
